Captain Lance Mourillon of the Raphaella (deep sea fish and charter boat) commented that: “The location of the tournament is very important because Marlin Boulevard in the east of St. Maarten / St. Martin has the reputation to be a great spot to fight the “Big Blue”, making it one of the most attractive fishing spots in the Caribbean. St. Maarten /St. Martin has beautiful turn key-ready marinas fully equipped for this calibre of event”. The Raphaella deep sea, salt water, fishing boat is specially equipped for big game fishing. Captain Lance Mourillon and crew of the Raphaella believe only big blue over 450 pounds will have interest to go the scale. Sport Fishermen will probably fish in 50 or 80 pound test and each vessel is obliged to provide an observer.
Captain Lance Mourillon commented: “Last year, the fourth sport fishing tournament was held May 27 - June 6 . It was promoted by organizers as the biggest sport fishing tournament in the West Indies. It was held for the first time in 2006 in Antigua. In 2009, the fourth outing was fished from the Yacht Club at Isle de Sol, St. Maarten. Boats will be coming from Trinidad, Santo Domingo, Barbados, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Antigua, St. Maarten, St. Martin, Saint-Barthélémy, BVI, Puerto Rico and the States.”
